As part of an interdisciplinary team the LPN will provide a comprehensive assessment of clients with mental health and addictions related issues and provide treatment management, guidance and prescribe medications in accordance with the statutory and regulatory standards. LPNs are required to work all shifts, which includes days, nights and weekends.
Job responsibilities/duties include:  
  • Delivering patient care according to the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta Standards of Nursing Practice. 
  • Providing ongoing client care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning implementation and evaluation. 
  • Formulating and implementing patient care plans. 
  • Safely implementing physician’s orders. 
  • Administering medications to clients. 
  • Maintaining current progress records on patients according to legal and ethical standards. 
  • Orientating, facilitating and reinforcing patients' involvement in eating disorder treatment. 
  • Decide and initiate a course of action in the case of medical emergencies.
  • Providing supportive counselling to patients, families and/or significant others regarding eating disorder treatment.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment in the facility conducive to the patient learning productive patterns of living. 
  • Providing ongoing health teaching to patients about common health problems that co-occur with eating disorders.
  • Co-ordinate individual patient appointments and referrals. 
  • Actively participate with team members in the assessment, planning and evaluation of the patient and patient care. 
  • Assisting the public with crisis intervention and information on eating disorders. 
  • Perform other duties as outlined on shift duty lists and as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor.
